Most of the products offered in the Capay Valley Farm Shop are grown here in Yolo County. Below is a list of our growing community of family farmers.
Cache Creek Lavender is a small, organic family farm located at the edge of Rumsey in the Capay Valley. A decade ago, in 1997, we began growing lavender on our two acre Capay Valley plot. The following year we started selling fresh lavender flowers at various local farmers' markets, and began developing lavender soaps, bath salts, and creams here at home for our own enjoyment. Today, we have the pleasure of offering our full line of organic lavender products for your use and enjoyment as well. We hope you enjoy the line of handmade lavender products we grow and craft right here on our farm.
Having lived on our ranch outside of Brooks since 1979, we have always invested a great deal of time and energy into planting food for ourselves - including almonds, walnuts, oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. That being said, we always had a vision of one day using our land to open our very own vineyard. In 1998, we opened Capay Valley Vineyards.
Our vineyard sits on a unique terroir – not only in the Capay Valley but in Northern California. In 2003 our valley was designated as an AVA (American Viticultural Area). Today, by matching the varietals with the climate and soil types, we have been able to produce a robust line of wines with a truly unique flavor and character. We are excited to showcase our products at the Farm Shop's tasting room.
Our small family owned almond orchard covers 37 acres in the lovely Lamb Valley near Esparto. FreeHeart Farm cultivates Non-Pariel, Butte and Carmel almonds as well as Chandler and Hartman walnuts. Here at Freeheart we love the lifestyle of farming; being outdoors and working hard to see the fruit of our labor.
Full Belly Farm is a 200-acre certified organic farm located in the beautiful Capay Valley of Northern California, an hour northwest of Sacramento. Full Belly has been farmed using organic practices since 1985 and is certified by California Certified Organic Farmers.
The farm owners are Andrew Brait, Paul Muller, Judith Redmond, and Dru Rivers. With help from about 25 to 30 employees, the farm produces an amazing diversity of vegetables, herbs, nuts, flowers, and fruits year-round. The farm also has a flock of chickens, a herd of sheep, and several cows.
Good Humus Produce is a small, certified organic family farm in a little valley called the Hungry Hollow. We started farming in 1976 with a love of growing food, living on the less traveled path and doing something meaningful came from generations of strong-minded individuals.
On our 20 acres we farm mixed orchards, mixed California native hedgerows, cover crops, annual and perennial herbs and flowers and vegetables. With the knowledge handed down from our parents and grandparents we also produce unique jams and jellies made from our own fruit and herbs, dry tons of our fruit in the California sun, and make wreaths from the dried herbs and flowers. We are delighted to be a part of the Farm Shop and enter the team of farmers in providing you with direct access to the best our valley has to offer.
Live Oak Farms is a 20 acre certified organic farm located just outside Rumsey. I purchased the farm in 2003 after 10 years as an employee at Full Belly Farm. Currently, my wife Nina Andres and I harvest approximately thirty different vegetables including salad greens, mustard, garlic, squash, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, corn, green beans and peppers. We also have some 200 olive trees, which are picked twice a year and pressed into virgin olive oil. In 2003, we began selling at Bay Area farmers markets and to local food coops in Davis and Sacramento. We are excited about being part of this community of family farmers and hope you will come by to see us at the new Farm Shop.
Range Brothers is a 20-acre pasture-based hog farm, owned and operated by Mark Keller and Chris Simas. We raise a herd of heirloom breeding stock of British Berkshire and Large Black Pigs, which are known for their legendary meat quality and their ability to thrive in a pasture based operation. We have recently launched a line of fresh pork cuts, sausages, as well as hardwood smoked bacon and ham (with no added nitrites).
Although we are not yet certified organic, we farm 100% free of herbicides, pesticides, and non-organic fertilizers. Also, because we believe animal husbandry practices are important, we have had our practices evaluated and Certified Humane by an ISO regulated third party verification system. We hope that you enjoy our new line of all natural pork products.
Our 250-acre organic farm is located just outside of Esparto, where rich creek-bottom soil, intense summer heat and winter frost make exceptionally tasty fruits and vegetables. Using certified organic production practices, we cultivate a variety of lush vegetables and fruits year-around.
We believe that the most wonderful part of farming is having access to both abundant, fresh, pesticide free produce and open space. We are pleased to join this community of farmers in offering you direct access to our produce through a local, farmer owned store front.
Our original Capay Valley Ranch was founded in 1867 by the great-grandfather of father Ray. For over 130 years now, we have been cultivating a variety of products on our land. We currently grow nine varieties of almonds, Arbequina olives for extra virgin olive oil, and three wine grape varieties for market. We are excited about being part of this family farm shop and the opportunity it provides to bring our products directly from our fields to your kitchen table. We hope you enjoy our extra virgin olive oil and our forthcoming raw almonds.
